ONLINE Hunter Trapper EDUCATION Course

A Trapper Education Course is also offered online. People who successfully complete the online course can print a certificate that allows them to buy a trapping license. Kansas Furharvester Education Course Persons born on or after July 1, 1966 must complete the course before harvesting furbearers in the state on lands other than their own.

Trapper education course information. What: Trapper education in Wisconsin is serviced through the Wisconsin Cooperative Trapper Education Program (WCTEP).WCTEP courses cover traps and trap parts, trapping techniques, regulations, Wisconsin wildlife, fur handling. The online course is only available to individuals 18 and older. Individuals under 18, though not eligible for online trapper education, can attend hands-on trapper education classes or take the correspondence course. Individuals under the age of 10 should contact the lead instructor.

Trapper Education. A trapper education course teaches participants how to responsibly trap furbearing animals and provides a foundation of knowledge upon which to build. Topics in the 10 hour course include proper trapping equipment and use, responsible trap setting, the importance of good wildlife management practices, and habits and traits.

Trapper Education Courses and associated Field Training Sessions are usually only available at certain times of the year. All traditional trapper education classes and field training sessions are usually completed for the season by the end of September statewide. Most areas of the State will not have another opportunity until late winter.

Online Self-Study Course-Students may study course material online and complete each section of the course. At the completion of the course the student must successfully complete an exam and will be able to print off a certificate verifying their assigned Trapper Education number. Trapper Education is required for all new trappers. This course covers how to trap responsibly and selectively and how to handle pelts to produce marketable furs. NOTE All courses require the completion of homework prior to attending the course. If you do not complete the homework you cannot complete the course.

Currently, only Illinois and Kansas offer online, state-specific trapper education courses that address the regulations and species found in the state (check back for new state courses soon). Trappers from other states are welcome to take either of these free courses to learn a lot about trapping and/or to prepare for a trapper education course in their state.

The Trapper Education Certification Card allows you to legally purchase a furbearer permit and apply for bobcat and martin permits. You can purchase a furbearer permit at any Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Office, license vender, or online. The courses are offered free of charge. At the end of each course, you can earn a trapper certification through the Indiana Outdoor Education Program. The courses are taught by personnel from the Indiana Divisions of Fish & Wildlife, Law Enforcement and members of the Indiana State Trapper’s Association.

Trapper Education students are required to bring the online course completion certificate, or a completed workbook when they come to class. Would-be trappers must successfully complete the Trapper Education course in order to purchase their trapping license. All courses, reading materials, and exams are written at a 6th grade reading level.
