This fully online course is intended as core competency refresher training for students who have previously taken an initial Hazardous Materials Operations level 472 course. This core competency refresher course provides a review of the information previously learned in NFPA 472 Chapter 5, Competencies for First Responder Operations Level.

This Online Certificate Course Meets and exceed the NFPA 472 Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents - Awareness Level and NFPA 704. Students will view a user 4 user friendly PowerPoints and then be tested for competency at the end of the online course.

This course enhances the awareness level of training for hazardous materials by meeting and exceeding the requirements for Fire Fighter I and II certification and satisfies the core competencies for operations-level responders, including the eight mission-specific responsibilities for first responders within the 2008 Edition of NFPA 472.

The Course has been designed to be completed Online. Participants will receive a NFPA 472 Diploma Certificate upon completion of this course. Cost: $105 (No Tax on Online Courses) **Students have 45 days to complete course *Meets prerequisite requirements for NFPA 1031, Certified Fire Inspector.

Prerequisites Pro Board Certification Requirements . Participants pursuing Pro Board certification must provide proof of NFPA 1072 Chapter 5 Operations or NFPA 472 Core Competencies for Operation level responders (2002, 2008, or 2013 edition) dated prior to the last day of class. The Hazardous Materials Awareness certification course is designed to increase your awareness about the many dangers involved with incidents, or situations involving hazardous materials or weapons of mass destruction. You are taught how to take appropriate action in terms of protecting yourself.

This 40-hour course, based on NFPA® 1072: Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications and NFPA® 472 standards, provides participants with HAZMAT-specific response knowledge and skills, enabling them to respond safely and effectively to a suspected incident.

Within your HMEP grant proposal you must clearly explain the training and identify which competency it falls under. This document is a summary of the standards/competencies which typically fall within the training proposals for HMEP. The NFPA 472 does contain additional competencies and you may review those in the original document if necessary.
